According to an Entrepreneurng report, Between January and February, the Nigeria Customs Service in Ogun State seized 115 illicit items, including 29 artifacts valued at N231, 218, 506, 11 trailers of rice, and 19,806 liters of gasoline.
This was revealed on Tuesday during a news conference about the command’s scorecard for January and February by Bamidele Makinde, the customs area controller of Ogun 1 Area Command.
Makinde reported that during the period, the command made N28,445,757 in revenue from import tariffs, auctions, and sales of scrap cars and petroleum products.

According to him, the seizures include 19,806 liters of Premium Motor Spirit, 18 units of pre-owned automobiles used to transport contraband, 64 bags and 824 wraps of books, bread, and coconuts, as well as 10 large and 19 tiny artifacts.
According to the Area Controller, additional seizures included 900 foreign-used tires, 520 cartons of frozen chicken goods, 73 bales of used apparel, 14 sacks of foreign-used shoes, and one unit of motorcycles used to transport illegal materials.
The Area Controller credited the command’s determination to carry out its primary duty of generating money, combating smuggling, and facilitating trade in Ogun State for the accomplishments noted.
“The Command earned N28,445,757.00 in total through import duties, scrap vehicle auction sales, and petroleum products.”
However, the seizure profile has continued to improve as a result of the command’s continuous anti-smuggling operations.
“During the review period, the command logged 115 seizures, including 6,743 bags of smuggled foreign parboiled rice weighing 50 kg apiece, the equivalent of 11 trailer loads.”
In essence, the following are a few of the other seizures that were noted throughout the period under review: 19,806 liters of Premium Motor Spirit, 18 units of previously-owned vehicles used to transport illegal goods, 64 sacks and 824 wraps of Cannabis Sativa in the form of books, bread, and coconuts, 10 large artifacts and 19 small ones, one unit of motorcycles used to transport illegal goods, 73 bales of used clothing, 14 sacks of foreign-made used shoes, and 900 pieces of foreign-made artifacts were all seized.

In addition to the Abeokuta axis, Ilaro axis, and Ipokia/Idiroko axis, other places where the seizures were made included. N231,218,506.00 is the total Duty Payable Value (DPV) of the seizures, according to Makinde.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to upholding excellent community ties with the traditional leaders, community leaders, and youngsters as well as keeping synergy with our sister agencies throughout the state.
In conclusion, Makinde further stated that the Command would keep facilitating legal trade while advising locals to steer clear of any illegal activity that would harm the local economy and reputation.
