To reduce the threat of car theft, the Nigeria Police Force has digitalized the Central Motor Registry Information System for efficient management of data on every motor vehicle and its ownership, as captioned by the Entrepreneurng report.

The Force Headquarters observes that the digitalized CMRIS will successfully fulfill the objective of acquiring further information about stolen vehicles from the general public and populating the database of stolen vehicles.

This, it claimed, would prevent stolen automobiles from being registered by the Central Motor Registry and facilitate the investigation of stolen vehicles and incidents involving vehicles.

The mandatory registration of vehicle information by the CMR since its inception about seven decades ago, which was done manually and therefore fraught with some challenges, has now given way to the digitalized CMRIS, according to Adejobi.

Additionally, he stated that the general public and owners of motor vehicles on Nigerian roads are hereby informed that the new process for requesting Nigeria Police Force Central Motor Registry services, such as Motor Vehicle Information, Change of Ownership, Change of Engine/Chassis/Body, Change of Color, International Motor Vehicle Certificate, International Drivers’ Permit, etc., is to create a profile on the CMRIS portal and apply via https://cmris.npf.gov.ng/.

The IGP has ordered the end of manual processing and issuing of all CMR documents and certificates, as well as a transition to the digitalized NPF CMR platform, Adejobi continued.
“As a result, any additional CMR certifications previously issued by the NPF are immediately void and no longer valid.”

In conclusion, the digitalized CMR platform will supply motor vehicle information for strong and proactive activities in crime prevention, detection, investigation, prosecution, and efforts toward boosting national security.
