Telecom operators in Nigeria have confirmed a temporary nationwide disruption in SIM-related services, affecting SIM swaps, replacements, activations, and similar transactions.
This interruption stems from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) transitioning to a new identity-verification platform.
The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) explained that unexpected technical difficulties during this migration have crippled real-time identity checks, essential for processing these SIM services.

As a result, all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) have been instructed to pause SIM-related transactions nationwide until the issues are resolved.
ALTON and its member companies are working closely with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), NIMC, and other relevant bodies to restore full service. In the meantime, they have urged subscribers to postpone any SIM-related requests—such as activations, swaps, or replacements—until further notice
