MTN Nigeria has announced a strategic partnership with automobile manufacturers, Nord and GAC Motors, to reinforce its commitment to local content development and support for made-in-Nigeria products.

According to a statement released on Friday, the collaboration includes the procurement of 33 vehicles to enhance the mobility of MTN’s customer-facing teams in Lagos and the North.

Of these, 22 vehicles were locally assembled by Nord and GAC Motors, while 11 additional vehicles were acquired to further support the company’s operational efficiency.

MTN emphasized that these vehicles are essential tools for facilitating seamless field operations, ultimately improving customer engagement and service delivery.

The initiative aligns with the Nigerian Communications Commission’s efforts to promote indigenous content in the telecom sector. In July 2021, the commission established the Nigeria Office for Developing the Indigenous Telecoms Sector, which oversees the enforcement of the Nigerian National Local Content Policy.

MTN stated that its commitment to local content supports the federal government’s push for digital and financial inclusion, reinforcing its role in driving economic growth through local partnerships.

Speaking at the vehicle handover ceremony at MTN’s Lagos headquarters, Lynda Saint Nwafor, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at MTN Nigeria, highlighted the importance of the collaboration in advancing the company’s local content strategy.

“At MTN, we maintain a stance on promoting local content development in Nigeria by enabling local supply chains through local procurement,” she stated.

She also explained how the initiative aligns with MTN’s logistics framework: “We had some challenges over the years. The logistics model we initially wanted to adopt didn’t work, so we had to revert to the old model. This model allows our sales and client success teams to better commute to customer locations.”

With over 80 million subscribers, MTN reaffirmed its commitment to creating shared value and contributing meaningfully to building a sustainable and inclusive economy in Nigeria.
