Workers in Kaduna, Nasarawa, Ebonyi, and Cross River states on Monday launched a one-week warning strike to demand the implementation of the new national minimum wage and consequential modifications.
Public institutions such as the State House of Assembly, courts, and ministries were closed in Nasarawa State.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) chairman in Nasarawa, Comrade Ismaila Okoh, stated that although the government made a verbal commitment to a minimum salary of N70,500, it did not produce written agreements.
He stressed that if the government does not take action, the workers are prepared to continue their protest.
Union officials in Kaduna State sealed down government institutions, including the state secretariat and court complexes.
The government’s declaration of a N70,000 minimum salary was rejected by labour unions in Cross River State, who said that other demands, like as the payment of newly hired employees’ overdue pay cheques, were still unfulfilled.
Calabar state offices were closed while labour leaders convened additional meetings to determine whether to extend the strike.
