Microsoft announced on Friday that it was implementing “mitigation actions” in response to service delays. “Our services are still seeing continuous improvements while we continue to take mitigation actions,” the company stated in a statement on social networking site X.
In a “Service Degradation” notification, Microsoft stated that customers “may be unable to access various Microsoft 365 apps and services”.
The news came as Australia had a widespread IT outage on Friday, with the national broadcaster, the country’s largest international airport, and a major telecommunications provider all reporting troubles.
According to Australia’s National Cyber Security Coordinator, the “large-scale technical outage” was triggered by an issue with a “third-party software platform”.
Microsoft stated that access was limited because some users could only use Microsoft 365 in read-only mode as the company worked to resolve the issue.
“We remain committed in treating this event with the highest priority and urgency while we continue to address the lingering impact for the remaining Microsoft 365 apps that are in a degraded state,” the company stated.
