Microsoft Corp. and Coca-Cola Company have revealed a five-year strategic partnership aimed at aligning Coca-Cola’s core technology strategy systemwide, facilitating the adoption of cutting-edge technology, and promoting innovation and productivity on a global scale.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by the two companies, Coca-Cola has committed $1.1 billion to the Microsoft Cloud and its generative AI capabilities as part of this collaboration.
The partnership underscores Coca-Cola’s ongoing technology transformation. The Microsoft Cloud serves as Coca-Cola’s preferred and strategic cloud and AI platform worldwide.
Through this venture, the companies will collaborate on experimenting with groundbreaking technologies such as Azure OpenAI Service to develop innovative generative AI use cases across various business functions. This includes exploring how Copilot for Microsoft 365 could enhance workplace productivity.
In a statement regarding the partnership, Judson Althoff, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Microsoft, remarked, “Through our long-term partnership, we’ve made significant progress in accelerating systemwide AI transformation across The Coca-Cola Company and its network of independent bottlers worldwide. John Murphy, President and Chief Financial Officer of the Coca-Cola Company, also emphasized the significance of the partnership, highlighting the exponential growth from the initial $250 million agreement announced in 2020 to the current $1.1 billion commitment.
As part of the deal, Coca-Cola has migrated all its applications to Microsoft Azure, with most major independent bottling partners following suit. Additionally, Coca-Cola has been pioneering AI adoption, leveraging Azure OpenAI Service for nearly a year to reimagine various aspects from marketing to manufacturing and supply chain operations.
Neeraj Tolmare, Senior Vice President and Global Chief Information Officer for the Coca-Cola Company, described the expanded partnership with Microsoft as a crucial step in the company’s digital journey toward becoming a digital-first enterprise powered by emerging technologies. Tolmare emphasized Microsoft’s capabilities in accelerating AI adoption to create incremental enterprise value.
