Meet Babs Ogundeyi, CEO and co-founder of Kuda Bank

Babs Ogundeyi is the CEO and Co-Founder of Kuda Bank, Nigeria’s first full-service digital-only bank regulated by the Central Bank and dedicated to making banking more accessible and inexpensive.

Babs Ogundeyi’s Education

Babs Ogundeyi was born and raised in Nigeria. He went to The Downs School and King’s College in Taunton.

He attended Brunel University in London, United Kingdom, after finishing his college studies. He received his BA (Honours) in Business Studies and Accounting from this university.

Babs Ogundeyi’s Kuda Career

Babs Ogundeyi has extensive experience in the financial services sector, having previously audited and advised several of Africa’s largest banks. Babs leveraged his significant private sector skills as Special Adviser on Finance to the Governor of Oyo State in Nigeria to finance the largest infrastructure bond in the state’s history.

Kuda is a full-service, digital-only bank with headquarters in London and offices in Lagos. It offers full banking services through mobile apps, allowing ordinary Nigerians with internet connection to manage a spending account and automatically save money without the burden of traditional bank fees. Kuda just launched its first credit product, providing users with quick financing through the Kuda app. It also provides free debit cards to consumers, distinguishing itself from digital wallets.

Kuda raised $1.6 million in pre-seed fundraising in the United Kingdom in 2019 and is now seeking a series A round. In 2020, Kuda established the COVID-19 fund to assist disadvantaged populations in Lagos, a city of approximately 20 million people.

Mortortrader Nigeria

Babs Ogundeyi was busy co-founding and growing Motortrader from April 2002 to May 2003. Motortrader is Nigeria’s first classified ad automotive magazine. It was eventually purchased by a major Nigerian newspaper firm just a year after it’s establishment.

PwC (PricewaterhousecCoopers)

Babs Ogundeyi worked as an Engagement Manager at PwC from October 2002 to March 2010. He oversaw audits and advising engagements for a number of African institutions. He has also audited for a few financial service firms.

Redbrick Limited

Redbrick Limited is a property development firm based in Lagos, Nigeria. Babs Ogundeyi worked as a Partner and Financial Advisory at Redbrick Ltd from March 2010 to June 2011.

Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor

He became a Special Adviser to the Governor of Oyo State after leaving Redbrick in June 2011. His primary responsibility was to advise the government on fiscal policies and other financial matters.
