LASTMA unveils Ticket Alert to track traffic offenders

by Tolulope Akinruli

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has introduced Ticket Alert, a new initiative aimed at promoting voluntary compliance with traffic laws among motorists.

The launch of Ticket Alert was announced by LASTMA on its official X page on Wednesday. This new solution is designed to streamline the enforcement of traffic regulations and ensure a smoother experience for drivers on Lagos roads.

With Ticket Alert, LASTMA utilizes modern technology to identify traffic violators more effectively, making it difficult for offenders to evade penalties for their infractions. Offenses such as driving with expired vehicle licenses, roadworthiness, or insurance will be closely monitored.

When a vehicle is captured by the app and identified as an offender with outstanding fines due to traffic violations, a yellow sticker will be placed on the vehicle as a reminder for the owner to settle any outstanding fines within a 30-day period. Failure to comply within this timeframe will result in the vehicle being impounded.

To facilitate the process, Lagos motorists are encouraged to visit paylasg.ng for further information, where they can also check for any outstanding fines using their plate numbers.

LASTMA emphasizes that Ticket Alert serves as a friendly reminder for motorists to fulfill their obligations and enjoy a hassle-free journey on the roads. The initiative aims to promote road safety and responsible driving habits among all road users.

In terms of operation, LASTMA officials will receive alerts on their mobile devices whenever vehicles with outstanding fines are detected nearby. This information is obtained through traffic cameras stationed around Lagos and handheld devices utilized by volunteers assisting LASTMA in ensuring safer roads.

Upon receiving notification, LASTMA officials will locate the vehicle and affix a yellow sticker to bring attention to the unsettled fine. Vehicle owners will then have 30 days from the issuance of the fine to settle it. The yellow sticker provides instructions on how to check and pay any outstanding fines.

Ticket Alert represents a significant step forward in it’s efforts to enforce traffic regulations and improve compliance on Lagos roads. By leveraging technology and public engagement, the initiative aims to create a safer and more orderly traffic environment for everyone.
