When Amazon announced another round of layoffs last week, Seattle-based engineer Shreya Bhosale immediately recalled her own experience.
The 28-year-old was among 18,000 employees laid off by the tech giant in 2023, a shock that affected her emotional health and threatened her visa status as an international worker from India.
Speaking with CNBC Make It, Bhosale said bouncing back required resilience, community, and self-compassion.
She offered four lessons for laid-off workers: don’t internalize shame, stay connected with others, take time to recover before job hunting, and keep learning, particularly in emerging areas like artificial intelligence.
“People are more open and empathetic now,” she noted. “Redefine yourself, stay connected, and trust that you’ll find your way again.”
