Lagos Governor Re-elect: Biography Of The Business Icon – Babajide Sanwo-Olu

Nigerian politician and current governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu is a member of the All Progressive Congress political party. On May 29, 2019, he was sworn in as the 15th governor of Lagos State after succeeding Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Entrepreneurng report.

He is a Nigerian native from Lagos state who was born on June 25, 1965, into a Christian household. He would be 57 years old by June 25, 2022, based on his birthdate.

His first degree in surveying was earned at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) after he received his first leaving school certificate.

Sanwo Olu attended the London Business School, the John F. Kennedy School of Government, and the Lagos Business School in addition to earning an MBA from the University of Lagos. He holds fellowships from the Nigeria Institute of Training and Development and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, respectively (NITAD).

He began working as a treasurer in the Lead Merchant Bank from 1994 to 1997. He then moved on to the United Bank of Africa (UBA), where he served as the head of the foreign money market. Also, he served as chairman of Baywatch Group Limited and a manager for First Inland Bank (now First City Monument Bank).

2003 marked the beginning of Babajide Sanwoolu’s political career. He was appointed as Femi Pedro’s special adviser on corporate matters, the former deputy governor of Lagos State. Later on, under the then-Gov. Bola Tinubu was appointed as the commissioner for commerce and industry, and he served in that capacity until 2007.

Babatunde Fashola appointed him to the position of Commissioner of Establishment, Training, and Personnel after the 2007 general elections, and during the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in 2016, he was promoted to the position of Managing Director of the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC).

The management of Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) Privatization projects is one of Mr. Sanwo-notable Olu’s contributions to the public sector. He established the Lagos Security Trust Fund and served as its first board chairman. Subsequently, his instructions led to the establishment of the LAGBUS System and the Control and Command Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.

After defeating Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 739,445 votes and 206,141 votes, he was elected governor in 2015 on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Sanwo-Olu has won numerous honors over the years, some of which are listed below:

1. The Lagos State Public Service Club’s Platinum Award.

2. 2009 Industrial Training Fund Award for Excellence in Human Capital Development (ITF).

3. The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria bestowed a merit award.

4. Nigeria’s Chartered Institute of Personnel Management has given me a merit award (CIPMN)

5. LSDPC Impact Leadership and Recognition Award recipient of the Association of Personnel Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) Merit Award.

Conclusion

As we approach Saturday again it is appropriate for all Lagosians to come out in great mass to vote for the Sanwo-Olu as the new governor re-elect because a good term deserves another. Sanwo-Olu has proven his loyalty and vows to do more if elected.
