Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba remarked that if Nigerians had heeded the counsel of the late Prof Ben Nwabueze, SAN, the nation would likely be experiencing more favorable circumstances today. Justice Alogba made these remarks during a valedictory court session held in Ikeja, Lagos, to honor the esteemed legal figure.
The event, attended by notable figures in the legal community such as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr. Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, and various judges, members of the Body of Benchers, and lawyers, served as a platform to recognize his immense contributions to constitutional law in Nigeria.
In his address, Justice Alogba emphasized the indispensable role of prof. Ben played in shaping constitutional discourse in the country. He lamented that the failure to heed his advice and implement his recommendations had potentially deprived Nigerians of better prospects. Justice Alogba highlighted the regrettable discrepancy between the ideals Prof Nwabueze championed and the reality of Nigeria’s current situation.
Despite Prof Nwabueze’s fulfillment in his personal endeavors, Justice Alogba expressed sadness over the nation’s inability to fulfill the promises it held during the late legal luminary’s lifetime. He characterized Nigeria as an ailment resistant to remedy, despite Prof Nwabueze’s relentless efforts to effect positive change.
