Igbinedion University Graduates 36 First-Class Students

During the 21st Convocation ceremony of Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye proudly disclosed that an impressive 36 students had achieved the esteemed status of First Class Degrees out of a total of 691 graduating students. This remarkable accomplishment reaffirms the university’s unwavering commitment to delivering top-notch education.

Prof. Ezemonye, addressing the audience during the convocation ceremony, expressed the university’s continued dedication to excellence in education, citing the institution’s track record of consistently blazing the trail in providing quality education. Since its inception, Igbinedion University has seen more than 16,000 students graduate from both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Breaking down the latest graduating class, the Vice-Chancellor revealed that out of the 842 students, 691 completed undergraduate degrees, while 151 completed postgraduate degrees. Among the undergraduate cohort, 36 students achieved the prestigious First Class status, 299 secured Second Class Upper Division, and 205 attained Second Class Lower Division. Notably, there were no students in the Third Class category, while 150 earned unclassified degrees in Medicine and Surgery and Pharmacy.

The academic excellence extended into the postgraduate realm, with 51 students earning Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, 93 achieving Master’s degrees, and 7 obtaining Postgraduate Diplomas. This diverse range of accomplishments signifies the university’s holistic approach to education, encompassing both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Prof. Ezemonye took pride in highlighting the significant strides the institution has made in research and innovation. He emphasized that Igbinedion University Okada has expanded its academic offerings to encompass 55 undergraduate programs housed in 34 departments, along with 24 postgraduate programs. This multifaceted approach aims to cater to a broad spectrum of academic interests and career paths.

Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor underscored the university’s commitment to quality assurance in education delivery. All programs offered by Igbinedion University are fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and relevant professional bodies. The institution’s pursuit of academic excellence is evident in its hosting of accreditation panels from NUC, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), and other professional bodies throughout the year, all resulting in successful outcomes.
