According to new data released by Google yesterday, Nigerians are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence, or AI, to boost their creativity and jobs. According to the most recent Google Search trends, AI-related queries in Nigeria have increased by 130 percent since this time last year, indicating a growing interest and curiosity about this disruptive technology.

Olumide Balogun, Google’s West Africa Director, commented on the developments, saying: “AI has the potential to offer possibilities for everyone, from the extraordinary to the everyday, bringing new waves of creativity, social, and economic growth.

“It’s no surprise that the people of Nigeria are already looking to make the most of this transformational technology, finding ways for it to boost their career, creativity, and society.”

Globally, AI is being researched more than ever before, and Nigeria is no exception. Searches for “what is AI” in Nigeria increased by more than 30%, while “how to use AI” increased by 40%, demonstrating a strong desire among Nigerians to comprehend and use AI for personal and professional development. Nigeria is now ranked sixth in Africa and 25th overall for AI search interest.

“The data also highlighted a significant rise in searches related to using AI for creative and professional purposes.”Trending searches in Nigeria include “create a logo with AI,” “create a CV with AI,” “design a website with AI,” and “create slides with AI,” all of which have increased in popularity by more than 5,000 percent since last year. This trend demonstrates an increasing dependence on AI tools to expedite creative processes and improve job-related duties.

“Nigerians are eager not only in using AI in their profession, but also in learning more about the technology itself. “Searches for AI and courses have surged by 50 per cent, while popular questions like is AI hard to learn, how to learn AI, and how to access and learn about AI suggest a keen interest in acquiring AI skills.”
