The Association of Distributors and Transporters of Petroleum Products has condemned the arbitrary charges that different unions have placed on its members, especially at the depots.
During a walk in Lagos on Friday, the group stated that the cost of petroleum products is affected by the various fees it charges its members. It declared that it would stop paying any union unlawful fees.
According to Ayo Abiola, the zone secretary for ADITOP South West, the march was held to promote equity and openness in the petroleum distribution industry.
He claims that the group was founded in 2012 in accordance with Nigerian legislation to support the equality principle throughout the value chain for the distribution of petroleum products.
“This rally was organised to address the ongoing challenges posed by arbitrary charges and regulations imposed by various unions and associations at petrol depots and tank farms, as well as on the roads.
“ADITOP is taking a firm stand against the exploitation of its members and the consuming public, condemning practices that hinder fair business operations and inflate costs for consumers,” Abiola said.
The group declared that it will not condone the actions of certain associations that disregard matters that have an impact on the business.
