FirstBank Group Appoints Olukorede Adenowo as CEO of FirstBank UK

FirstBank Group, a prominent financial institution in Nigeria, has officially named Olukorede Adenowo as FirstBank UK’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Effective from November 16, 2023, this appointment is subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.

Folake Ani-Mumuney, Group Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications at First Bank of Nigeria Limited, shared the news, emphasizing Adenowo’s outstanding leadership qualities, strategic vision, and extensive understanding of the global financial landscape. Adenowo, with a proven track record of success across various countries, is well-suited for this role, bringing a wealth of experience from his remarkable journey in the banking industry.

Adenowo’s banking career is distinguished, with his most recent role being the Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria. Commencing in 1999 in the Corporate Banking sector, he has held pivotal positions, including Managing Director/CEO of SCB Gambia, Deputy Managing Director/CEO of SCB Cameroon, and Managing Director of Corporate Commercial and Institutional Banking for SCB Nigeria and West Africa.

His leadership portfolio is further enhanced by his role as a Non-Executive Director of SCB Gambia and SCB Sierra Leone, accumulating over 13 years of board experience within the Chartered Bank Group.

Dr. Adesola Adeduntan, CEO of FirstBank Group, expressed the collective excitement of the Board, Management, and staff at FirstBank Group in welcoming Olukorede Adenowo to the FirstBank family. Dr. Adeduntan is confident in Adenowo’s ability to guide FirstBank UK through its next phase of growth and development, given his extensive background and accomplishments in the banking sector.

Adenowo’s career commenced at Deloitte Nigeria, where he became a Chartered Accountant in 1991. Recognized as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria in 2003, he received the Distinguished Alumnus award from Deloitte Nigeria in 2015. His academic qualifications include an MBA from Lagos Business School and participation in management training programs at INSEAD and Said Business School, Oxford University, with a focus on Leadership.

This appointment marks a significant milestone for FirstBank UK, with Adenowo bringing a fresh perspective and a wealth of experience to the table, promising a bright future for the institution under his leadership.
