First Bank of Nigeria Limited has dismissed fraud charges made against it in a lawsuit filed by a customer, Dr. Agbai Eke, saying the assertions “entirely unfounded and false.”

In a statement issued by Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, the bank confirmed that its internal examinations found that the situation was caused by “unprofessional and unethical dealings” between Dr. Eke and a former FirstBank employee.

The bank asserted that these transactions were conducted through a personal contact and took place without its knowledge or involvement.

“As the matter is currently before the Court, we will refrain from further comments to allow the Court to dispassionately determine the issues before it,” according to the statement.

FirstBank also revealed that it has reported the case to law enforcement for further investigation, with the suspects already providing important information to authorities.

FirstBank reaffirmed its commitment to ethical banking practices, assuring stakeholders of its dedication to openness, accountability, and client safety.
