A fire broke out in the early hours of Monday at the Moniya Garage in Ibadan market, burning shops and property worth millions of Naira.Mr Yemi Akinyinka, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, confirmed this in a statement released to journalists in Ibadan on Monday.
Akinyinka stated that the agency received a distress call regarding the fire incident from one Mr Adelola at 12:27 a.m. on Monday and quickly dispatched staff to the location.
He stated that when agency staff arrived on the site, they noticed that the fire had spread to rows of stores and container shops in the garage. “The fire situation was reported to the agency at exactly 00:27 hrs by one Mr Adelola. There were stores on fire at Moniya Garage, Oja Agbe.
“Immediately, personnel from this agency, led by ACFS Oyedeji, were dispatched to the scene of the incident. “We swiftly swung into action, and we were able to curtail the fire and restrict it from spreading to all nearby shops and other properties,” he told CNN. Akinyinka stated that no lives were lost in the fire, but properties worth millions of naira were damaged.
The general manager stated that the remote cause of the fire was the unattended use of electrical appliances. He asked the people of Oyo State to handle fire with caution in order to avert fire mishaps.
