Chief Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, emphasized that the Federal Government’s paramount focus is on achieving food security and sustainable economic growth. The objective is to enhance the standard of living for all Nigerians, as stated during the commissioning ceremony of the Nigerian Council of Food Science and Technology (NiCFoST) Data Base Management Centre in Abuja.
Nnaji highlighted the necessity for technological solutions and collaborative efforts across agriculture, food science and technology, as well as nutrition and health programs to mitigate the risks of food insecurity in the country.
Addressing the gathering, Nnaji underscored the importance of NiCFoST’s regulatory framework in curbing unprofessional practices and enhancing management along the food value chain. This, he believes, will contribute to the economic benefits of ensuring sustainable national food security.
Mrs. Veronica Nkechi Eze, the Registrar of NiCFoST, mentioned that the council, established just three years ago, plays a crucial role in regulating the practice and profession of Food Science and Technology in Nigeria. The commissioning of the Data Base Management Centre signifies a step forward in strengthening the council’s capacity to fulfill its regulatory responsibilities.
