The 10-year Standard UK Visitor Visa permits Nigerian tourists to visit the United Kingdom many times during a decade, with each stay lasting up to six months. This visa is suitable for people with ongoing personal or professional ties to the UK, but it does not allow for long-term residence or work.

For many Nigerians, this visa is convenient because it eliminates the need for regular applications while still allowing visits for family, business, or short courses. The UK government has simplified the process for returning visitors, making it a popular choice for both tourists and business travellers.

What is the process for Nigerian applicants?

Determine eligibility

Make sure your travel purpose is compatible with visa requirements, such as tourism, business meetings, or short courses. The visa does not allow for long-term stay, work, or extended study.

Complete the online application

Visit the official UK government website and accurately complete the visa application form. To avoid delays or refusals, include information about your travel dates, purpose, and itinerary.

Pay the Visa fee

The ten-year Standard Visitor Visa costs £963. Ensure that you have access to the requisite funds and pay online.

Schedule a Visa Application Centre (VAC) appointment

Make an appointment at a VAC in Nigeria to submit biometric data and the necessary documentation.

Prepare supporting documents

A valid passport must cover the duration of the trip. Financial evidence: Bank statements demonstrating sufficient finances. Accommodation and Travel Information: Proof of where you will stay and travel plans. Visit Purpose: Invitations from relatives, employers, or event organisers.

Attend the VAC appointment

Submit your biometric information, passport, and any supporting papers.

Await the decision

Processing typically takes three weeks. The UK Home Office will evaluate documents to verify they meet visa criteria. Bottlenecks for Nigerian applicants. Incomplete or erroneous documentation can result in delays or rejections. Financial proof is essential—applicants must prove they can afford to stay.

The visa fee is high, therefore it is critical to plan your finances accordingly. The introduction of the 10-year visitor visa has raised demand for flights and travel between Nigeria and the United Kingdom. With fewer visa reapplications required, more Nigerians are booking frequent trips, which benefits airlines, travel companies, and hotel providers.
