The US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, is reportedly working on a generative AI chatbot designed to streamline government operations.

The chatbot, named GSAi, is being developed for the General Services Administration (GSA) as part of a broader effort to modernize the US government’s efficiency through artificial intelligence.

Musk’s Role in Government AI Innovation

Elon Musk was appointed to lead DOGE in November 2024 alongside Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican presidential candidate.

The department, created under President Donald Trump, aims to cut government costs and improve operational efficiency.

According to sources cited by Wired, the GSAi chatbot is expected to support the agency’s 12,000 employees who oversee federal buildings, contracts, and IT infrastructure.

It will also be capable of analyzing large volumes of procurement and contract data, enhancing decision-making and resource allocation.

AI Integration into Government Operations

The development of GSAi follows previous discussions between the GSA and Google about integrating its Gemini AI system into government operations.

However, current reports suggest that the government is now focused on building an in-house AI solution instead.

Thomas Shedd, a former Tesla employee now overseeing technology transformation services at GSA, hinted at the project during a recent meeting.

In an audio recording obtained by Wired, Shedd emphasized the goal of creating a centralized system for contract analysis, which could provide deeper insights into federal spending.

“This is not new—this has been in motion before we started. The difference now is potentially building the system in-house and doing it very quickly,” Shedd reportedly said.

Trump’s Broader AI Strategy

GSAi is just one aspect of the US government’s push for AI dominance. In January 2025, Trump announced the $500 billion Stargate Project, a massive initiative aimed at securing the country’s leadership in AI development.

Elon Musk, who also owns X (formerly Twitter) and runs xAI, has been heavily involved in AI research.

His AI startup developed Grok, a chatbot integrated into the X platform, further demonstrating his commitment to AI-driven innovation.

As of now, the White House has not issued an official comment on the GSAi project. However, its development signals a significant shift toward AI-powered government efficiency under Musk’s leadership.
