Virtual Assistant and multi-talented creative, Comfort David, has challenged the popular narrative of overnight success in the gig economy, stressing that real growth in freelancing comes from discipline, skills, and consistency rather than quick wins.

In a recent post, David responded to claims of freelancers earning huge sums in their first weeks of work.

“I made $1,000 in my first week as a Virtual Assistant sounds exciting, right? But let’s be honest, posts like this can be misleading,” she wrote.

Sharing her personal journey, David, who also works as a Voiceover Artist, Administrative Support Professional, Social Media Strategist, Writer, and Founder, said she did not start out earning thousands.

Instead, she spent time mastering time management, organization, and efficiency skills that later became the foundation of her value to businesses.

“Quick wins don’t build lasting success. Systems, skills, and steady growth do,” she emphasized, noting that many so-called overnight success stories often gloss over the struggles and hard work behind the scenes.

David encouraged aspiring freelancers and virtual assistants to measure progress not by flashy income screenshots but by the consistency of their work, the skills they develop, and the small wins that compound over time.

“Don’t measure yourself against credit alerts or shiny success stories. Measure your growth by the skills you’re building, the consistency you’re showing, and the small wins that add up. Because real success? It compounds,” she said.

Her message adds to the growing conversation about the realities of freelancing and the importance of sustainable growth in the digital workspace.
