Dangote Refinery has received its fourth crude shipment, comprising one million barrels of bonny light crude, supplied by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL). This follows the earlier delivery of three million barrels, with preparations now reaching a crescendo for the refinery’s imminent production kick-off.

The world’s largest single-train refinery is anticipating the arrival of its fifth crude shipment in the near future. The recent delivery, part of the six million barrels expected, underscores the refinery’s progress toward operational commencement.

Akin Omole, Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, previously stated that the refinery would receive four million barrels before the end of 2023, with the remaining two million expected in early January 2024. This strategic crude supply positions the refinery for a smooth start to operations.

Upon full delivery of the six million barrels, the refinery will initiate its production, focusing initially on diesel, aviation fuel, and LPG, followed by Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). This milestone holds significant promise for addressing fuel supply challenges in Nigeria and West African countries.

Designed to process 100% Nigerian crude and adaptable to other grades, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery boasts a daily capacity of 650,000 barrels. It can handle various African crude grades, Middle Eastern Arab Light, US Light tight oil, and crudes from other nations.

The refinery is well-positioned to meet 100% of Nigeria’s refined product requirements, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel, with surplus quantities available for export. Its marine facility is equipped to handle the largest vessels globally, and the refinery adheres to stringent international emission standards.

Built to comply with US EPA, European emission norms, Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) standards, and African Refiners and Distribution Association (ARDA) specifications, Dangote Refinery represents a transformative milestone in Nigeria’s refining sector. The impending production launch signals a significant step towards enhancing energy self-sufficiency and regional fuel supply reliability.
