Court Decides: CBN Governor and Malami Called To Vacate Office – APC Leader

by Tolulope Akinruli

Mallam Salihu Lukman, the National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress, demanded the resignations of Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation, on Friday for deceiving President Major General Muhammadu Buhari and disobeying the Supreme Court’s ruling on the new naira redesign policy.

The change occurs just hours after the supreme court rejected the CBN policy because it was imposed without proper notice and in violation of the constitution.

“The old N200, N500, and N1,000 naira notes should therefore coexist with the new ones until December 31, according to the Supreme Court.”

Lukman remarked that the unexpected adoption of the currency swap policy and the short timeframe had caused untold suffering for Nigerians in response to the news.

The Kaduna politician stated that after such abuse of public office, it was proper for public office holders like Emefiele and Malami to acknowledge their limitations and leave honorably.

Lukman expressed satisfaction with the Court’s decision that the Federal Government’s cashless policy was illegal and a flagrant breach of Nigerians’ fundamental rights.

Regrettably, President Muhammadu Buhari could have been lured into such illegal activities and an abuse of executive authority. We appreciate the Supreme Court Justices, particularly Justice Akomaye, for this important legal intervention on behalf of all Nigerians.

In essence, Godwin Emefiele and Abubakar Malami must take personal responsibility for this act of illegality by the Federal Government given the harmful nature of the consequences of the Federal Government’s cashless policy as it has been implemented thus far and the damage that the Supreme Court ruling has done to the profile of President Buhari. Public officials who engage in such criminal activity voluntarily resign from their positions in modern democracies.

The CBN Governor, Mr. Emefiele, and the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Malami, should accept the limitations of both their knowledge of the law and commitment to democracy by resigning from their respective offices immediately if the Federal Government’s cashless policy was indeed intended to comply with current legal provisions of the Nigerian Federation, but it turned out to be the exact opposite. Those who blatantly break the law or support actions that violate the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s constitution must not be permitted since the rule of law is essential to democracy.

The vice chair of the APC also praised the fortitude of the governors of Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara, Nasir El-Rufai, Yahaya Bello, and Bello Matawalle, for taking on the federal government on behalf of the people.

He saw that by acting to ease people’s pain, they had displayed true heroism.”On behalf of our party leaders and North-West members, we salute our three governors of Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara states, Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai, Alh. Yahaya Bello, and Alh. Bello Matawalle, for having the courage and initiative to challenge the Federal Government’s action in the Supreme Court. Regardless of political orientation, patriotism must oppose government policies that, regrettably, subject Nigerians to suffering and unfathomable shock.

However, by doing this, our APC leaders, led by Mallam Nasir, Alh. Yahaya Bello, and Alh. Matawalle has yet again shown a superior dedication to democracy. We urge Nigerians to remember that the APC spearheaded the campaign against the Federal Government’s cashless policy, despite efforts to sensationalize it and use it as a political football to further the interests of opposition political parties and their candidates during this election year.

Conclusion

It is encouraging that Nigerians withstood the antics of disloyal politicians who sought to use such crass tactics, such as inflicting immeasurable agony and suffering on Nigerians, to persuade people to vote against the APC in the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections.

Again Nigerians are applauded and praised for their belief in the APC, their commitment to voting for our party’s candidates in the 2023 elections, and their confidence in our party. At the governorship and state house of assembly elections on March 11 we are indeed optimistic that Nigerians in all 36 states of the Federation would reaffirm this trust.
