China and India have solidified their positions as Nigeria’s largest sources of imports in the fourth quarter of 2024.

According to the latest trade report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), China retained its spot as Nigeria’s leading import partner, while India closely followed.

Nigeria’s imports from these countries primarily include electronics, machinery, textiles, and industrial equipment, all of which play a vital role in the country’s manufacturing and technology sectors.

India’s trade contributions, in particular, stand out in pharmaceuticals, industrial raw materials, and processed food products, further strengthening its economic ties with Nigeria.

A breakdown of the Q4 2024 trade data highlights China’s continued dominance in Nigeria’s import market:

1. China – ₦4.61 trillion (27.80% of total imports)
2. India – ₦1.90 trillion (11.43%)
3. Belgium – ₦1.39 trillion (8.35%)
4. United States – ₦1.06 trillion (6.36%)
5. France – ₦601.28 billion (3.62%)

With China and India maintaining strong trade relations with Nigeria, these figures reflect their significant influence on the country’s import sector.
