CBN’s entrance is blocked by protesters in Edo State

by Tolulope Akinruli

The shortage of naira notes, which has caused agony for millions of Nigerians, prompted a civil society organization in Edo State, the Edo Civil Society Group, led by Comrade Agho Omobude, to block the main entrance of the Central Bank of Nigeria in Benin City on Tuesday.

Vehicles entering the Ring Road at Akpakpava were forced to travel through Igun Street to Sokponba before connecting to the Ring Road as a result of the protest.

To ease the suffering of Nigerians who are currently having a terrible time accessing their money, the protesters urged the appropriate authority to make the new naira notes available. They also urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to start issuing N100, N50, and N20 notes if the new notes were not immediately available.

The central bank governor, Godwin Emiefele, allegedly conspired with the federal government to implement the naira swap program at the time to deliberately subject the populace to unimaginable hardship.

The leader of the central bank’s Benin branch promised to address the group when he emerged from the bank, and he said that it was inhumane to keep allowing Nigerians to endure this misery. The group will remain outside the bank’s entrance until he arrived.

Before they (the Civil Society Group) exited the bank’s gate at around 1 pm, according to Omobude, the CBN in Edo and the Civil Society Organization struck some agreements.

We are sick of the problem that the lack of the new naira currency is generating, he declared. We reject causing hardship to anyone. With the CBN’s consent, we would distribute the smaller denominations across the counter, with N20,000 going to each consumer.

Additionally, they informed us that all banks should make the new notes accessible and distribute them over the counter and through automated teller machines.

They have also consented to be a part of the monitoring committee the apex bank established to verify that funds allocated to banks are released, the author continued.

In conclusion, in my best opinion l urge the federal government of Nigeria for quick intervention towards the scarcity of new naira all over it globe in other not to result in ” End Sars” episode two. If protesters continue to emerge daily there will be massive destruction of properties and may even include loss of lives in the process. People are been frustrated with daily basics as the hunt for new naira increases daily.
