Botswana, in southern Africa, has been chosen to host the 15th US-Africa Business Summit (USABS), a major platform for strengthening US-Africa trade and investment ties.

As African Heads of State, US and African corporate business leaders concluded their mid-December US-Africa Leaders Summit in Washington, the 2023 US-Africa Business Summit will provide a unique opportunity to sustain positive momentum in US-Africa engagement.

The US-Africa Business Summit is a critical component of the Corporate Council on Africa’s engagement on the continent, bringing together African heads of state, US and African government officials, top CEOs and Senior Business Executives from major sectors critical to the continent’s development, such as infrastructure, ICT, health, energy, mining, and creative industries.

Botswana, one of the world’s fastest-growing economies in the last decade, is regarded as a successful model for Sub-Saharan African countries. The country is poised for a resilient recovery following COVID-19, thanks to robust mining industry, prudent macroeconomic policies, and strong governance.

Over the years, US government and private sector leaders and African political and corporate business leaders have consistently collaborated to share insights on critical issues and policies influencing the US-Africa economic partnership.

The concern is to review the opportunities for US and African public and private sector leaders, how to strengthen the US-Africa economic partnership through investments in key economic and trade sectors, and the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).

According to the White House, the Biden-Harris administration prioritizes a broader economic relationship with Africa. And US investors are eager to explore the various opportunities available in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), a policy signed by African countries to make the continent a single market.

“We are delighted that the Government of Botswana has accepted our invitation to host the 2023 US-Africa Business Summit in Gaborone, and we thank President Masisi for seizing the opportunity to forge two-way trade and investment partnerships between the United States and Africa,” says Florie Liser, President and CEO of Corporate Council on Africa.

Florie Liser went on to say that Botswana has shown that effective economic policies, good governance, and investment in local processing create resilient economies. The 2023 US-Africa Business Summit will be a historic opportunity for US companies to present Africa as a strong trade partner.

The 14th US-Africa Business Summit themed Building Forward Together, was held in July 2022 in Marrakech under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

After emerging from two years of unprecedented health and economic challenges, the July summit explored a renewed commitment by both public and private sector stakeholders to strengthening US-Africa trade, investment, and commercial ties. The Corporate Council on Africa coordinated and organized the event (CCA).
