Motherland the Musical, a magnificent and thought-provoking musical, was presented on the Terra Kulture stage over the holiday season by MTN Foundation in collaboration with Bolanle Austen-Peters Productions.

This is consistent with the Foundation’s extensive efforts to promote the diverse cultures and history of Nigeria and to open doors for young Nigerian artists and cultural producers through stage plays and dramatic storytelling.

The play was presented at Terra Kulture Arena in Lagos from December 23 to January 2, 2023, during the year-end break. In addition, it stars seasoned actors like Oluwatosin Adeyemi, Gideon Okeke, Uzo Osimpka, and Bamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan.

Motherland the Musical depicts our past, present, and future. It is a festival that features exquisite costumes, captivating tales, incredible music, and exceptional dances from various tribes that identify as being from Nigeria.

The conflict areas, which are set in a town hall narrative, also examine the issues that are currently on young Nigerians’ and youths’ minds. The emotional rollercoaster that is Motherland the Musical promises to be a spectacle of all our cultural attire, music, and tales.

Speaking about the relationship between the collaboration with BAP to produce the musical, Odunayo Sanya, Executive Secretary of MTN Foundation, said: “This partnership is in furtherance of the MTN Foundation’s goal to preserve Nigerian stories while positively showcasing Nigeria’s many beautiful cultures. At MTN Foundation, we believe that while we continue to evolve as a collective, we must not lose sight of our history and culture. This is one of the reasons we have remained committed to both the preservation and positive projections of our stories by supporting and promoting the arts. Beyond that, we also consider it an avenue for youth development.’’

One of the many arts and culture projects that the Foundation has supported this year is Motherland the Musical. The Life in My City Art Festival and the Beeta Playwrights Competition are two others.

You may also remember that the MTN Foundation gave more than N380 million to more than 15 theatrical productions all over Nigeria.

The Foundation has helped over 3,000 young creatives and accomplished professionals. Oluronbi the Musical, Saro the Musical, Fela and the Kalakuta Queens, Five Maids of Fadaka, OMG the Musical, and Flower the Musical are just a few of the productions that the foundation has previously supported.
