Akwa Ibom State has been proclaimed the 2024 Calabar Carnival’s overall Cultural Carnival winner among the participating states.
Delta State finished as the second runner-up, and Osun State took the first runner-up.
Yakurr LGA took first place in the Local Government Areas category, with Calabar South and Odukpani LGAs coming in second and third, respectively.
Known as “Africa’s Biggest Street Party,” the Calabar Carnival showcased a dazzling exhibition of dancing, music, cultural heritage, and intricate costumes.
Participants and spectators from other Nigerian states and foreign visitors were drawn to the event, which boosted Cross River State’s economy and cultural tourism.
Seven competing bands were featured in the carnival’s 2024 edition: Passion 4, Freedom, Bayside, Calas Vegas, Masta Blasta, Seagull, and Diamond Bands. Each band performed in keeping with the carnival’s theme of “Our Shared Prosperity,” and enthralled audiences with their imaginative and creative displays.
Notably, the Calas Vegas Band maintained their title from the previous year and won the 2024 Calabar Street Carnival overall. Second and third place went to the Seagull Band and Bayside Band, respectively.
The Calas Vegas Band once again led the Junior Carnival section, which the Seagull Band and the Bayside Band followed.
The month-long celebration culminated on December 28, 2024, leaving a lasting impression on attendees and setting a high standard for future editions of the Calabar Carnival.
