Sola Sobowale, a veteran Nollywood actress, has dispelled allegations about her supposed arrest for drug trafficking in Saudi Arabia.
During a recent episode of the ‘King of Talk’ podcast with Teju Babyface, the 58-year-old film star discussed the unfavourable reports made about her in Nigeria when she relocated to the United Kingdom to work in menial jobs.
The actress added that one rumour suggested she was slain in Saudi Arabia for drug trafficking, and that many people were startled to see her alive when she returned to Nigeria. Her words: “The worst rumours I heard about me were that Sola Sobowale had been killed in Saudi Arabia.” “And that I carried cocaine,” she stated.
“It was written in Nigeria. I got arrested in Saudi Arabia. There, they amputated my leg and hand. And I told them that I am a star in Nigeria and that they should murder me. “So when I arrived in Nigeria, they reported ‘Sola Sobowale is dead’ at the airport. I asked if you believe in abracadabra. I stated I was still living. I have never travelled to Saudi Arabia.
“I’m not even sure where it is on the map. So many bad aspects. But all glory is due to God. “God has compensated me.” The seasoned actress revealed that she suspended her career to focus on her children, emphasising that she did not want anything in return.
She also mentioned leaving her lucrative acting employment, which paid her over N5 million in just months in the early 2000s, for menial jobs in England.
She explained, “It was strange because my tag said ‘Olu’. Because I did not include Olusola. “One of the top Ogas looked at me and said, ‘Have I met you before?’ and I said no,” she claimed.
“He stared at me and walked away. When I spotted him in the workplace, I approached him and asked, “May I know you, sir?” He stated his name is Seye Fadipe. And I answered yeah; you’ve met me before. I stated that my name is Sola Sobowale. You met me on television.
“He stared at me like, ‘Are you crazy?’ I stated I am not insane. He inquired, “What are you doing?” You’re up there in Nigeria. There was something better than that. My future. My kids are my future. Sola Sobowale’s energy will not be available indefinitely. Then you will harvest what you have sown.

“At that time, Sola Sobowale was Baba’s career. Nothing was impossible for you in your career. Not a senior caretaker or team leader. You’ll wash. You will carry. You will clean. You’ll do everything. That is what I was doing. The following week, my name was called to attend college and register.”
