The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with the Charitable Network for Community Empowerment (CHANCE), has equipped market women in Ikeja with essential skills in environmental sustainability and waste management.
Held at Computer Village in commemoration of International Women’s Day, the program focused on educating traders about responsible waste disposal, innovative upcycling techniques, and sustainable agricultural practices.
Olajumoke Saliu, the founder of CHANCE, highlighted that the initiative was designed to empower women by turning waste into economic opportunities.
“We want to sensitise our fellow women who are market leaders and traders within Ikeja Computer Village on the importance of proper waste management, environmental sustainability, and upcycling,” Saliu remarked.
She emphasized that the training would enable participants to explore creative ways to repurpose waste materials, particularly for urban farming, fostering both environmental and financial benefits.
“There is a need for us to establish climate literacy. People must be aware of how their sanitation decisions impact the environment,” Oshodi asserted.
