In keeping with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, will discuss the Commission’s vision for the Nigerian capital market at the Second Capital Market Committee (CMO) meeting.

According to a Commission statement, the conference next week will focus on developing measures to strengthen the capital market’s role in driving economic growth and development through initiatives that attract investments, promote market efficiency, and protect investor interests.

According to the SEC, the meeting would bring together important stakeholders in Nigeria’s capital market to examine the industry’s existing landscape, regulatory structure, and future growth initiatives. Participants will share ideas and reaffirm their commitment to creating a vibrant investment climate that values innovation, sustainability, and investor protection.

“We need to create an enabling environment for the capital market to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the country’s economic development.”

The SEC claimed that the meeting will focus on crucial market issues and ensuring that all concerns are addressed.

“The committee will review reports from technical committees, market infrastructures, and industry observers, and discuss emerging market trends” .

“We want to ensure that all stakeholders are on the same page and working towards a common goal” , the statement read. The Capital Market Committee (CMC) is an industry-wide committee that includes the SEC, capital market operators, trade associations, and other stakeholders.

According to the Commission, “the CMC serves as a platform for dialogue, facilitates the exchange of ideas, addresses key issues impacting market growth and organisation, and collaborates on shaping the market’s future.” The SEC emphasised stakeholder participation and cooperation. “We need to work together to build a robust investment climate characterised by innovation, sustainability, and investor protection” .

The gathering will bring together CEOs from all licensed capital market firms, including broker/dealers, investment advisers, custodians, fund/portfolio managers, and others. “We want to ensure that all stakeholders are engaged and committed to the growth and development of the capital market.”
