The Lagos State government recently granted a three-month extension to owners and developers of existing buildings in the state that do not have Planning permit.
Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, announced this in Alausa, Ikeja, saying Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had approved a three-month extension of the programme, beginning August 1 and ending October 30, 2024, to allow more people to benefit.
Recall that the Lagos State government announced in April a 90-day amnesty period from May 2 to July 30, 2024, to allow owners and developers of existing developments to obtain Planning Permits without paying the statutory penal fees that would have been incurred if buildings were erected without approval. Olumide further explained:
“The Sanwo-Olu administration instituted the amnesty programme to cushion the effect of the current economic hardship on the built environment sector and equally enhance compliance to Physical Planning regulations to guarantee a livable, organised, orderly and sustainable built environment.”
