Diana Chen, the chairman of CIG Motors Co Limited, stated on Tuesday that insecurity and an unstable electrical supply were two challenges impeding the efficient running of auto assembly factories in Nigeria.

Chen spoke at the introduction of the new GS8 premium SUV and the formal opening of the Guangzhou Automobile Group Motor Abuja G-Style showroom in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

In order for Nigeria to realize its potential for growth in the auto industry, she encouraged the new administration to address insecurity.

“Power stability is one challenge, without stable electricity supply, it is difficult to have manufacturing here, another one is a security issue,” she said.

She emphasized that GAC Motor was willing and ready to work with the government at all levels to rebuild the youth population’s capabilities so that they could become well-trained, skilled, and technical people, especially in the area of the automobile industry. She urged the incoming government to address security issues with a strong sense of urgency.

She believes that Nigeria has enormous economic potential, particularly in the auto industry.

Chen further encouraged the Federal Government to create measures that would motivate Nigerians to buy brand-new automobiles rather than relying on imported, reasonably used ones.

A program like that, she continued, would encourage investment in manufacturing facilities, which in turn might generate wealth and employment for the nation.

Customers will be able to buy cars while paying back in monthly installments, she said, adding that the company had already partnered with four banks in the nation.

“GAC Motor Nigeria is committed to building and developing the future of the automobile industry in Nigeria, and believes that collaboration with the Federal Government is key to achieving this goal”, she stated.

Chen reassured Nigerians that GAC would continue to support the country’s creative industry and football national teams.

The Super Eagles’ top players Ahmed Musa, Wilfred Ndidi, Kenneth Omeruo, and Alex Iwobi were present at the occasion, and Ibrahim Gusau, president of the Nigerian Football Federation, commended the car manufacturer for supporting Nigerian football teams in his remarks.

The brand-new GS8 SUV was developed for Nigerian roads, according to Mr. Jubril Arogundade, General Manager Commercial at CIG Motors.
