Tanzania is becoming a bubbling environment for business activities which has gone a long way in helping young entrepreneurs achieve their dreams. As a result, the East African country is gradually taking its place among countries such as South Africa, Nigeria, Rwanda, etc.

1. Benjamin Fernandes, CEO, NALA

Benjamin is a multiple award-winning entrepreneurs, speaker, and founder of the first offline payment application in Africa as a whole. He also holds the record of being the first Tanzanian to attend the Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government and the Stanford Graduate School of Business – MBA.

His company, NALA, has become a blueprint and case study for many other tech enthusiasts across the continent. The company is the first-ever East African company to be selected as a Y-Combinator, and with operations across Tanzania and Uganda.

In 2017, Benjamin became the youngest person in history to be accepted to Harvard Kennedy School of Executive Education, a program specially designed for senior business executives.

2. Given Edward, CEO, Mtabe, and My Elimu

Given is the brain behind two Tanzanian ventures – Mtabe and My Elimu. The platforms focus on connecting students who do not have access to the internet to learning materials. Internet connectivity is a major issue across Africa, and Given is one of the few entrepreneurs trying to bridge the divide through the provision of educational content.

In 2015, he received an award from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for his contribution. He was also recognized as a Royal Commonwealth Associate Fellow, a distinction given to exceptional young people across the Commonwealth.
