Daniel Bwala, a former spokesman for the defunct Atiku-Okowa Presidential Campaign Council, believes the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, needs change. Bwala mentioned this during an interview with Arise Television on Tuesday.

His remarks came as EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede vows to prosecute controversial former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello. The chief of the anti-graft agency vowed to pursue Bello’s case to its natural conclusion. He also pledged that anyone who obstructed the former governor’s arrest will face justice.

The EFCC is attempting to arraign Bello on 19 counts of money laundering, breach of trust, and theft of funds totaling N80.2 billion. Bwala commented on the developments, saying, “I don’t think anyone should deny that the EFCC needs reform at this point. During his interview on Tuesday, he shot himself with a variety of bullets, demonstrating to the public that their ideals are being applied disproportionately.

“One, he said he would give the governor the opportunity to come to his office through the back door for an interview, which no one gets, and the law states that everyone is equal and no one is above the law.”

“Secondly, it demonstrates the determination with which he (Yahaya Bello) should be arrested. There are similar instances before him (EFCC chairman), and he has issued a preliminary indictment, but no one has been detained.

“A excellent example is the suspended Humanitarian Minister; there is no commotion surrounding her. He even stated that it isn’t about her, but the system. “In one breath, it’s about personality; in the next, not,” he explained.
