The World Bank, through the Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) initiative, has allocated $250,000 in revolving loans to support ten vulnerable communities in Doma and Toto local government areas of Nasarawa State.
Dr. Joy Iganya Agene, Task Team Leader for ACReSAL and Senior Environmental Specialist at the World Bank Nigeria Office, announced this during the initial loan disbursement ceremony for ACReSAL community revolving funds. She noted that the beneficiaries include 620 individuals, 367 men and 253 women from five communities in the two local government areas.
Dr. Joy expressed satisfaction with the selection process, stating, “As a World Bank representative, I am impressed by the modalities used. Our core objective is to lift people from poverty and restore land.”
The National Coordinator of the ACReSAL Project, Mr. Abdulhamid Umar, and Nasarawa State Coordinator, Dr. Napoleon Elias, highlighted that this federal project, funded by the World Bank to the tune of $700 million, aims not only to address environmental challenges in the nineteen northern states and the FCT but also to improve land use practices and promote ecological restoration.
The World Bank’s support through ACReSAL is poised to significantly impact the targeted communities, fostering resilience and sustainable development in Nasarawa State.
