Waiting for election results is never simple, especially at this time of year when there are so many unknowns that people are already feeling increasingly anxious.

Because friends, families, and coworkers are talking about their concerns and thoughts about the situation, even those who have little interest in politics are likely to be impacted by it.

Here are some strategies for avoiding negative effects on your well-being while staying informed about what’s happening in the country.

1. Keep an open mind

Election-related conversations can be heated, so avoid getting involved if you know that you won’t be able to participate in them with an open mind. Decide to disagree if you are not emotionally capable of having those types of discussions.

2. Consume social media in moderation

When there is misinformation and tension is high, excessive social media use can exacerbate anxiety and depression.

3. . Recognize your fear

Acknowledging your fears is the first step toward overcoming them. The ability to overcome fear comes naturally once you address the cause of the issue.

4. Exercise

You can reduce your anxiety and depression symptoms by exercising regularly. Exercise will help to relieve stress, especially during this time.

5. Obtain enough rest

Never use your bed to watch TV, listen to the radio, or scroll through your phone. Sleeping enough will aid in emotion control and stop anxiety from growing.

6. Connect with family and friends

Being surrounded by like-minded individuals, particularly family members can help to reduce tension. Igbokwe stated that talking to friends or family members who have similar worries or concerns can make you feel less alone and more supported.

7. Take care of yourself

Create self-care routines to help you safeguard your mental space. Deep breathing, meditation, mindfulness exercises, and other techniques can help you break free from worries and refocus your thoughts.

8. Consult a professional

It is further stated that you should think about seeking professional assistance from a mental health professional if your anxiety is interfering with your daily life and making you feel overwhelmed.

9. Pay attention to the good.

Keeping your attention on the good things will lessen your anxiety, fear, and depression. Try to maintain your positive outlook; it can be beneficial for both your physical and mental health.

10. Moving on

Although it can be disappointing to learn that the candidate you support lost the election, try not to wallow in your sorrow. The future holds better days, and your candidate can run again in 2027. Learn to move on.
