Fathers have been exhorted by President Bola Tinubu to uphold their promise to positively influence the futures of those who are entitled to them.
President Tinubu congratulated fathers on Father’s Day, stating that fathers, and all paternal figures, have played a significant role in determining the future of the country through their sacrifice, patience, provision, protection, presence, and guidance of the youth towards the right and noble path.
The President said that Father’s Day is significant because it is a day set aside to honour all fathers, living and deceased, as well as paternal figures.
Father’s Day has official roots in West Virginia, United States, where an event was held in 1908 to celebrate 362 men who died in an explosion at a coal mining company. The holiday has its roots in the Middle Ages.
In addition to preparing their children for the future and guiding them through life’s ups and downs, fathers who rise to the great demand of responsibility are better able to leave their children with pristine values that money or material comfort cannot buy—only by setting a personal example of discipline, integrity, service, respect, love, and loyalty to the country.

The President praised all fathers—both well-known and obscure—who persevered through the day’s labour and the nigsain in order to support their families, calling them genuine heroes.
