The TETFund Alliance for Innovative Research (TETFAIR) has concluded, leaving an indelible mark on the minds of participants and industry stakeholders. This event not only celebrated the achievements of Nigerian inventors but also signaled a significant leap in their capabilities.

The doubts about the maturity of Nigerian inventors were unequivocally dispelled at TETFAIR. During the event, it was revealed that prototypes of innovations developed by a team of Nigerian researchers under the TETFund Alliance for Innovative Research have not only been tested but are also receiving positive feedback from potential investors. This underscores the growing prowess of Nigerian innovators on the global stage.

One remarkable discovery during the occasion was the unveiling of a self-programmable and affordable hearing aid, specifically designed for the African market. This breakthrough not only showcases technological advancements but also addresses the accessibility of vital healthcare solutions in the region.

Arc. Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, expressed his excitement at the tangible impact of the Fund’s unwavering commitment to research and development. He proudly announced that the team behind these innovations was selected among the top three participants in the Accelerate, Redesign, and Collaborate (ARC) Centre for Digital Innovation Entrepreneurship Programme at the Sheba Hospital in Israel. Their innovation was even presented at an international medical conference, highlighting the global significance of their work.

The TETFAIR initiative extends beyond healthcare, encompassing diverse fields such as agriculture, food technology, education, textile, and the oil and gas industry. The research teams have developed prototypes ranging from a non-invasive, automated poultry measurement and data collection system to a wireless network-based solution for tracking and monitoring animals. One particularly innovative solution involves a drone equipped with sound-based technology to herd birds away from farms in a specific direction, mitigating potential agricultural challenges.

In the realm of education, a team designed an Education Kit for experimental physics studies using the characteristics of the flywheel. Additionally, an automation solution for the textile drying process was developed, enhancing cost efficiency for small and medium businesses in the textile industry.

Echono emphasized that these prototypes have undergone rigorous testing and are receiving positive feedback from potential investors, highlighting the commercial viability and market readiness of these innovations.

Furthermore, Echono underscored the critical role of research and innovation in addressing the challenges of underdevelopment facing the nation. He asserted that they represent the most compelling strategy for accelerating sustainable growth. The TETFAIR, as an initiative, was specifically organized to support Nigerian researchers and academics in universities, facilitating the transformation of innovative ideas into practical solutions.

“The advocacy for the institutionalization of Research and innovation in our tertiary education arose from the need to address the myriads of underdevelopment problems plaguing our country and the lack of capacity to tackle it,” Echono remarked. TETFund, as a leading interventionist agency in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector, has strategically deepened its interventions in content-based programs, making conscious investments in support of research, innovation, and development.

Echono outlined the TETFAIR’s strategic areas of focus, aligning with national aspirations. These include Agriculture and Food Technology, Environment, Energy and Circular Economy, Health and Accessibility, Information Communication Technology, Security, Transportation, Aviation and Shipping, and Streamlining/Improving Production Processes.

Minister of State for Education, Yusuf Sununu, acknowledged the multifaceted efforts of Nigerian researchers, citing examples such as vaccine development at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. Sununu urged TETFund to scale up copyright ownership protection to safeguard the innovations developed by Nigerians, emphasizing the importance of retaining copyright ownership of products and services.

Additionally, Sununu called for collaborative efforts between academic institutions, industry players, and other stakeholders to ensure the marketability of products originating from Nigerian researchers and innovators. This collaborative approach, he believes, is pivotal for the successful transition of groundbreaking ideas into tangible solutions with real-world impact.

The Minister of Labour, Simon Lalong, described the TETFAIR as a celebration of remarkable innovative achievements over the years. He highlighted the fair’s role as a platform for researchers and innovators to showcase their groundbreaking ideas, facilitating the transformation of these ideas into tangible solutions.

Conclusion: TETFAIR

Lalong expressed confidence that the valuable experiences gained through TETFAIR would empower Nigerian scholars to make significant contributions to their respective fields both domestically and internationally. In essence, the fair serves as a catalyst for fostering a culture of innovation and research excellence, essential for the nation’s sustainable development, as reported by guardian.ng
