Nigeria’s power sector has achieved a historic milestone, reaching an available generation capacity of 6,003 megawatts (MW) on March 2, 2025.
This unprecedented achievement is attributed to recent electricity tariff adjustments, which have enhanced liquidity and incentivized performance within the sector.
In addition to this record capacity, the country recorded a peak generation evacuation of 5,801.84 MW and a daily maximum energy output of 128,370.75 megawatt-hours (MWh) during the same period.
Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, emphasized that these accomplishments are the result of strategic reforms and collaborative efforts aimed at optimizing Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
He noted that the tariff review has been pivotal in creating a more sustainable and investment-friendly environment, encouraging private sector participation and mobilizing essential capital for infrastructure development.
Looking ahead, the Federal Government plans to continue tariff regularization efforts, aiming to further boost available generation capacity to 7,000 MW. This initiative is expected to enhance the reliability and efficiency of Nigeria’s power sector, meeting the growing energy demands of businesses and households nationwide.
