APC candidate Monday Okpebholo emerged as the winner of the Edo governorship election held on Saturday.
Prof. Faruq Kuta, vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Minna, announced the election result as the returning officer at the INEC collation centre in Benin City on Sunday.
Kuta reported that Senator Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes, emerging victorious in 11 of the state’s 18 local government areas.
The first runner-up was Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, who got 247,274 votes.
The Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata emerged as the second runner-up with a total of 22,763 votes.
Here are six facts about Okpebholo:
1. He was born in 1970 in Uromi, Edo State.
2. His education began in Uromi before he advanced to the University of Benin, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics. He also has a master’s in public administration and a PhD in agricultural economics from the University of Ibadan.
3. He has investments in hospitality, construction, oil and gas, and agriculture.
4. His political journey started in 2003 when he was elected to the House of Representatives under the PDP.
5. Okpebholo is a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
6. He has four children with his wife.
