Actress Abidemi Adisa, a Yoruba native who works in Nollywood, has confirmed that sex-for-role syndrome is a real and present threat in the film business, having driven out a number of really talented and well-meaning performers. It is real and one of the reasons keeping a lot of gifted individuals away from the Nigerian film business, according to Adisa.
Men can also become victims from time to time; this is not just the case with actresses. However, we cannot blame Nollywood for this, as it is also present in other industries. She continued, “Fortunately for me, no one has ever asked me for sex in exchange for a role because I’m not desperate to become famous.”
She also talks about her entry into the field, saying, “My love of the pretend world inspired me to pursue acting. I’m always impressed by the way talented actors bring a character to life and convince the audience that it actually happened. This had a big impact on my decision to pursue acting as a career.
Under the guidance of seasoned actor Mr. Saidi Balogun, Abidemi Adisa acquired the fundamentals of acting. She has acted in numerous films, including Violence Parts 1 and 2, Bisola Peperenpe, Tani, Drotimi, Ire, Asiri Pepe, Akete, and others. The delightful actress also produced three films on her own: Ota, Ojiji Ife, and Bidemi Jagba 1 and 2.
