A $5 billion artificial intelligence data centre will be constructed in the future city of NEOM by a Saudi business, according to official media. DataVolt and NEOM struck an agreement that will finance the construction of a 1.5 gigawatt AI data centre that is totally sustainable, according to the official SPA news agency. It will be situated in Oxagon, an industrial city in NEOM that the monarchy hopes to develop into the biggest floating industrial complex in the world.
Unveiled by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the NEOM project includes a mirrored structure called The Line that stretches 105 miles (170 km) across the desert from the Gulf of Aqaba.
When Prince Mohammed announced The Line in 2022, he stated that it will accommodate more than one million people by 2030 and nine million by 2045. However, developers have subsequently changed their forecasts to 300,000 residents by the end of the decade, according to Bloomberg.
In late October, Saudi Arabia announced the launch of Sindalah, a luxury resort on the Red Sea, which was NEOM’s first operational project. NEOM is part of the larger “Vision 2030” effort, which aims to secure the future development of the world’s largest oil exporter in a post-oil era.
