The Pi Network has warned its members, referred to as Pioneers, to be on the lookout for possible fraud and scams during the run-up to its Open Network launch on February 20, 2025.
The Pi Core Team stressed how crucial it is to protect user accounts and to be on the lookout for bad actors trying to take advantage of the impending change.
Key Recommendations for Pioneers:
-
Account Security: Ensure the use of strong, unique passwords for Pi accounts and enable all available security features to protect personal information.
-
Official Channels: Interact exclusively with the official Pi Network applications and websites. Be cautious of third-party platforms or services claiming affiliation with Pi Network, as they may be fraudulent.
-
Beware of Scams: Pi Network has reiterated that mining Pi is free. Any individual or entity requesting payment for Pi coins or mining privileges is likely attempting to perpetrate a scam.
-
Data Protection: Exercise caution when sharing personal information, even within the Pi community. Scammers may pose as official representatives to extract sensitive data.
Particularly on social media, the Pi Core Team has noticed a rise in bogus identities posing as official Pi Network personnel.
These imposters frequently use strategies like phoney Pi Wallet transactions to trick users. To counter this, Pioneers are encouraged to confirm the legitimacy of messages and transactions, making sure they come from authorised Pi Network sources.
Pioneers are urged to finish their Know Your Customer (KYC) verification and move their accounts to the Mainnet in advance of the Open Network launch.
The development and usefulness of the network will be aided by active involvement in the Pi ecosystem, which includes using Pi applications and encouraging their usage in actual business.
