Olamide Gbenga Adedeji, or simply Olamide Baddo is a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter and record executive of YBNL, born on March 15th, 1989.
The 34-year-old is one of Africa’s most prominent artists, having helped start the careers of countless Afrobeats musicians.
Olamide: Early Life and Musical Origins
On March 15, 1989, Olamide Gbenga Adedeji was born in Bariga, Lagos State. He is the second of Pa Adedeji’s three children by his second wife, Ronke Osisanya Adedeji. Olamide’s two siblings are TemmyGold and Eniola Olamilekan, also known as DJ Enimoney.
The 2010 release of Olamide’s debut single, “Eni Duro,” marked the beginning of his career. He gave a performance at The Hip Hop World Awards the same year. He attended Tai Solarin University to study mass communication but left because of financial difficulties.
Olamide and Adebukunmi Aisha Suleiman are married. Together, they are parents to two boys, Tunrepin Myles Adedeji and Batifeori Maximilliano Adedeji. Olamide allegedly had a love child with Maria Okanrende, who at the time worked at The Beat 99.9 FM
Olamide: Brief Musical Career
He records in both English and Yoruba. While he was signed to Coded Tunes, he released his debut studio album, Rapsodi, in 2011. His second album, YBNL, was made available under his label imprint, “Yahoo Boy No Laptop,” also known as YBNL Nation.
The lead singles from the album were “First of All,” “Voice of the Street,” “Stupid Love,” and “Ilefo Illuminati.” Baddest Guy Ever Liveth, his third studio album, was released on November 7, 2013. Two singles from the album are “Durosoke” and “Yemi My Lover.” Olamide became the first Nigerian to sign a Cîroc endorsement contract on July 17, 2013.
As the first-ever Nigerian hip-hop act to do so, Olamide was nominated for his first Grammy Award in November 2023 for the song “Amapiano,” alongside his signee Asake.
On August 9, 2023, Olamide’s 10th studio album, named Unruly, was released. Various African heavyweights, including CKay, Asake, Bnxn, Rema, and Fireboy DML, are featured on the album.
