In addition to its leading role in Nigeria’s oil and gas business, NNPC Limited’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr Olufemi Soneye, has stated that the company is a key contributor to the national electricity system. Soneye, speaking at an engagement session with chosen Kannywood artists in Abuja on Tuesday, advised the performers to use their platform to lobby for the protection of national assets, particularly those administered by NNPC Ltd.
He urged the performers, “You are more than simply actors; you are powerful influencers whose words change public opinion. That is why I am urging you today to use your platforms to campaign for the safeguarding of our national assets, particularly those handled by NNPC Limited.
“Vandalism against essential infrastructure, such as oil and gas pipelines, power plants, and energy installations, poses a significant threat to our economy, national security, and overall growth. We must all do our best to educate the public about the risks of such actions. As respected members of society, you have the power to spread this message.
“Do you know that NNPC Ltd has been at the forefront of efforts to enhance Nigeria’s power sector? “NNPC Ltd is at the heart of Nigeria’s energy security, serving as a key contributor to the national grid. “Our investments in key facilities demonstrate our commitment to power generation.”
Soneye stated that the NNPC currently “operates the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant, a wholly owned facility that provides essential electricity to the region.” In addition, we co-own two significant power plants, Afam VI and Okpai 1 & 2, which have a total installed capacity of 1,132 MW. These facilities are critical to guaranteeing a steady supply of power to homes, industries, and companies around the country.
“Imagine if vandals damaged or destroyed these important assets—entire neighbourhoods would be thrown into darkness, businesses would suffer, and the economy would suffer a terrible blow. “This is why we need your voices to amplify this message: ‘Safeguarding our national assets is safeguarding our future!”
He stated that the NNPC is “fully committed to driving Nigeria’s energy sustainability and economic growth, but we cannot do so alone.” We need your help to raise awareness and promote a sense of responsibility and patriotism among Nigerians.
“The NNPC Ltd management team, led by Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) Mele Kyari, has adopted strategic steps that have greatly improved the security of our national assets, generating unparalleled outcomes in the sector.
“These achievements have been made possible through the visionary leadership and unwavering support of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu” , according to him.
