A recent study conducted by professionals in Nigeria’s artificial intelligence (AI) sector projects a significant 30% growth in the country’s AI market over the next five years. The growth is anticipated to be driven by increasing healthcare, agriculture, finance, and education adoption.

In the healthcare sector, AI is expected to bring about a revolution in patient care and diagnostics. The study suggests that AI-driven solutions will enhance crop yield predictions and pest control in agriculture, which is crucial for a nation where agriculture plays a significant economic role.

The AI sector has announced the InnovateAI Lagos 2024 conference and hackathon to further promote AI in Nigeria. This groundbreaking event, focusing on the theme “Adapting AI For Nigeria: Crafting Intelligent Solutions For Our Unique Landscape,” is considered a pivotal moment for the AI industry in Nigeria. The conference, scheduled for February, aims to bring together over 1,000 professionals, researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, thought leaders, enterprise businesses, and regulators with a shared passion for AI and its potential to transform society.

Dotun Adeoye, one of the co-conveners, emphasized that InnovateAI Lagos 2024 is more than just a conference; it catalyzes to break down silos in the Nigerian AI ecosystem and learn from local and global thought leaders. Another co-convener, Ehia Erhaboh, stated that the event aims to localize AI advancement for Nigeria, showcasing how AI can effectively address the nation’s unique challenges and contribute to the 4th industrial revolution.

This initiative reflects the growing recognition of AI’s potential in Nigeria and the concerted efforts to leverage this transformative technology to address specific challenges across various sectors.
