The Aurora Tech Award 2023 shortlist includes no fewer than seven Nigerian women who are the founders of startups.
The women are among 22 finalists chosen from various nations around the world, according to a statement.
The nominations this year reverberate as a time of pride for Nigeria as seven women from the country have dominated the list, according to the award’s organizers, inDrive.
Each year, the Aurora Tech Awards honor outstanding women contributions to innovation and technology.
The competition this year had entries from all over the world, and 22 contestants made the shortlist.
The seven Nigerian women up for the award include Cynthia Asije and her company Craftmerce Inc., Folake Owodunni and her venture Emergency Response Africa, and Princess Oti, the founder of Kaoshi Network.
Others include Olapeju Umah of MyFoodAngels, Ifedayo Durosin-Etti, who owns the firm Herconomy Limited; Monsurah Alli Oluwafuyi, who owns the startup HERRYDE; Ifedayo Durosin-Etti, who owns the startup Sendstack.
Winners will be announced on March 8, 2023, at an online event on auroratechaward.com to honor International Women’s Day, according to the release.
Three cash awards totaling $30,000, $20,000, and $10,000 would be given to the winners for first, second, and third place, respectively.
The Executive Director of the Aurora Tech Award, Ekaterina Smirnova, said, “The shortlisted applicants this year demonstrate leadership and innovation in using advanced technologies to improve communities and challenge IT inequality. Our VC partners examined each application.
