The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) will auction 15,325 litres of seized Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as fuel, for 400 per litre to address transportation issues over the Christmas season.

Hussein Ejibunu, the service’s National Coordinator for Operation Whirlwind, made the news on Saturday during a press briefing at the Customs Training College in Ikeja, Lagos.

Ejibunu claimed that the seized petrol, worth ₦27.5 million, was confiscated during operations conducted in Lagos and Ogun states. The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has authorised the auction, with fuel priced at ₦10,000 per 25-liter container.

The coordinator went on to say that the legal adviser’s office had completed all legal and procedural requirements, including a court condemnation order, to make the auction process go smoothly.

“This operation, which began on May 27, 2024, has delivered positive results,” he stated. “The Comptroller-General has directed the operatives to sustain this momentum until the activities of economic saboteurs are completely eradicated in the country.”

The CGC has allowed the public auction of seized petrol at a rate of ₦10,000 every 25 litres, as per the direction. This approach intends to relieve transport challenges throughout the holiday season.”
